#SHOWBIZ: Walk The Doc Festival returns for 3rd edition at Stadium Merdeka next month

KUALA LUMPUR: The Walk The Doc Festival is back for its third edition, and this year, it will take place at the historic Stadium Merdeka from Nov 19 to 21.

"Stadium Merdeka is a place of historic pride and has witnessed many milestones in our country's history.

"We're proud to host this year's festival in a place that embodies the spirit of storytelling and history," said festival director Nurashikin Zaharuddin during a press conference, here earlier today.

Previously held in Langkawi, the festival will feature 30 documentaries from around the world, covering a wide range of topics such as conservation and cultural preservation.

This year's festival will also introduce the Community Meet-up Initiative, aimed at fostering connections among filmmakers, creatives, and documentary enthusiasts. It will provide a platform for networking and collaboration.

Another exciting addition is the launch of Walkabout Asia, a new travel documentary streaming platform showcasing the diverse cultures and landscapes of Asia.

The festival will also debut the Small Story Big Impact programme, which supports emerging filmmakers.

A three-day special workshop, led by Emmy Award-winning director Chris Schueler from New Mexico, started yesterday.

Eight selected participants will receive RM5,000 grants to produce micro-documentaries focused on downtown Kuala Lumpur.

These short films will premiere during the festival, highlighting the city's vibrant heart through personal and impactful storytelling.
