THE maestro of romantic Indonesian songs, Yovie Widianto, has once again come up with a musical gem by re-releasing the hit song 'Terlalu Cinta' and giving it to one of his country's best contemporary singers, Lyodra.
'Terlalu Cinta' was created by Yovie almost two decades ago.
Released in 2006, it became a hit for popular Indonesian R&B legend Datuk Seri Rossa.
This time, Yovie has chosen Lyodra to sing it in a fresh and contemporary style.
The song is released under the Universal Music Indonesia recording label.
In a recent statement, Yovie said Lyodra's voice is suitable for this song.
"I have always had Lyodra in mind for the new version of 'Terlalu Cinta', and I'm glad that I have made a good choice.
"She is easy to work with and is a perfectionist."
Lyodra said when Yovie invited her to sing 'Terlalu Cinta', she immediately accepted the offer.
"However, I must admit that 'Terlalu Cinta' was a tough song and the pressure to sing it well was great because it was a mega hit for Rossa."
Lyodra added: "I did feel intimidated by the song at first. I felt that I could not do justice to this iconic song.
"However, Yovie advised me to give it my own interpretation, and I did just that.
"After singing it, I felt satisfied that I had given it my best shot. The process of recording 'Terlalu Cinta' was long, but it was enjoyable all the way."
For fans on both sides of the Straits of Malacca, 'Terlalu Cinta' is a love song with a beautiful pop ballad sound.
This song tells listeners about the bitter experience of someone trapped in unrequited love.
Through its lyrics, this song conveys feelings of despair and sadness because the female narrator's relationship with her "Mr Right" did not work out well.
As for the musical arrangement, Yovie did not change it much in order to "maintain the basics" of the 2006 original.
"However, the new sound is made more powerful by strengthening the strings to accompany the piano, which is the main instrument played.
"Lyodra makes this song fresher with her sharp and clear vocals," said Yovie.
"Lyodra's vocal strength is the main highlight of the rearranged song that captured the hearts of millions of music lovers two decades ago."
The song's music video, directed by Prialangga, carries a simple but meaningful concept.
"It is a short film that tells a poignant and dramatic story without much dialogue.
"It includes some conflict as this makes the story a lot more interesting," said Yovie.
"The scenes in the video are beautiful and serve as eye candy to an otherwise sad story."
Apart from Lyodra, the music video stars Davina Karamoy, who is known for appearing in the film 'Ipar Itu Maut', and Arbani Yasiz who starred in 'Ancika: Dia Yang Bersamaku 1995'.
"What makes the music video memorable is the presence of Rossa in the last part.
"This seems to be a reinforcement of Rossa's support for Lyodra to sing the song in her own style," said Yovie.
"I hope this nostalgic song will not only attract fans of the original, but also be enjoyed by the music lovers of today."
Lyodra said: "My wish is that it can be heard by many people, and become something fresh to listen to whenever you are down.
"Also, it can be a soundtrack for those who relate to its passionate and deep lyrics."
Malaysian fans can listen to the song on all digital music platforms.
