#SHOWBIZ: Unlikely pair delivers ghostly theme song

NOT many music lovers can imagine Shiha Zikir and popular new social media influencer Aya Amiruddin performing a hauntingly catchy song.

But this collaboration has been realised in 'Naik Hantu', the soundtrack of the movie 'Pontianak 200KG'.

 RAP

This combination of Shiha Zikir's melodious voice and Aya Amiruddin's energetic rap is the newest song produced by Alternate Records.

'Naik Hantu' is a pop rock tune created by composers and songwriters Iqie Hugh, Shazriq Azeman, and Omar K.

It was inspired by the elements of horror and humour that have been weaved together in 'Pontianak 200KG'.

 CATCHY

With catchy lyrics accompanied by  haunting rhythms, 'Naik Hantu' creates an eerie but entertaining atmosphere and will definitely keep listeners spellbound.

In a recent statement, Omar said: "The song is about a romance that initially appears to be sweet and beautiful, but over time the protagonist couple realise that there is something wrong with one of them."

'Naik Hantu' conveys the message that we should not rush into a relationship and must always investigate the real cause of any calamity which befalls our family.

 ACTING

Omar said: "The uniqueness of Shiha and Aya's collaboration is that they are talented not only in singing but also in acting.

"This makes the presentation of the song a lot better.

"They understand the storyline very well and can appreciate the emotions behind the song.

"This makes the recording process much easier, and the process was also a lot of fun."

 PLEASURE

Shiha was very excited about the opportunity to sing her new song.

She said that this was her third single with Alternate Records but her first collaboration with Aya.

"It was a pleasure working with Aya, our recording was completed in less than 2 hours."

 LAUGHS

The biggest challenge for Shiha was the chorus that required her to laugh like a vampire.

However, she was very proud of the end result of the song, a first to be paired with elements of laughter and creepy vampire voices.

 AJL

"This song is unique and challenging, especially with the need for laughter.

"It is so much fun and more interesting with the presence of Aya who is always cheerful and bubbly.

"I hope this song will be well-received by fans around the country and abroad," said Shiha.

 DIFFICULT

Aya, who is collaborating for the first time with Alternate Records and also releasing her first single, said that she was very grateful to be chosen for the song.

Sharing her experience during the recording session and working with the composers, Aya admitted that it was difficult to balance rapping with the rhythm of the song.

 BREATH

"The biggest challenge for me was the rapping part. Sometimes, it's hard to control my breath and make sure it matches the beat of the song.

"If you want to catch your breath, you might suddenly leave the beat behind.

"The brilliant composers and Shiha really guided me throughout the recording."

 LEAD

Aya also plays the lead role in the movie which will be shown in cinemas around Malaysia from Sept 5.

She said that this added to the uniqueness of the song.

The mad cackling of the vampires in a scene from the movie, incorporated into the song truly made it entertaining, strange and catchy.

 SUCCESS

"I am still new in the music and movie industry, and being able to play the lead role in 'Pontianak 200KG' and being able to sing the soundtrack of the movie with famous singers like Shiha is a huge success for me."

Aya hopes that the song will open up more opportunities in the music industry for her and also encourage her to star in more dramas and movies because she likes singing as much as acting.

 SEQUEL

'Pontianak 200KG' is the sequel to 'Pontianak 100KG' and it features an ensemble cast of popular actors and actresses who are both established names as well as new faces.

Besides Aya, there is also Dottie, Ropie, Ziana Zain, Apich Lo, Niezam Zaidi, Wanns Ahmad, Maliababy and Shaf Naufas.

The 'Naik Hantu' soundtrack can be found on various online streaming platforms.
