#SHOWBIZ: Istana Budaya brings young Permata Seni Muzik talents to Singapore music festival

KUALA LUMPUR: Istana Budaya has coordinated with Permata Seni Muzik (PSM) for the inaugural participation of local young talents in the 10th Singapore Raffles International Music Festival 2024 (SRIMF 2024) at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore.

The PSM members are made up of children aged 7 to 18 who posess talent in the field of music and have been trained in classical music (string ensemble or string orchestra) by professional instructors locally and overseas.

A total of 15 PSM children will compete in the Instrumental Ensemble category led by conductor Datuk Mustafar Fuzer Nawi during the festival which began today and will run until July 22.

SRIMF 2024 is a prestigious competition event featuring various music categories and is open to young musicians from all over the world under the age of 25.

The event is a good platform for the musicians to highlight their talents, network and hone their musical skills to an international level.

This festival also provides learning opportunities via its variety of masterclasses, concerts, seminars and workshops conducted by internationally renowned music educators.

PSM will be performing two works by famous composer Felix Medelssohn, namely String Symphony No.1 in C Major, 1st Mvt and 3rd Mvt, during the competition.

In a statement yesterday, Istana Budaya director-general Zubaidah Mukhtar said: "PSM is a structured music learning and training programme that began in 2010.

"We are proud that Istana Budaya has managed to bring the PSM children, under the supervision of the National Symphony Orchestra, for the first time to the international stage to compete and to promote Malaysia," she added.

The delegation of the PSM group together with Istana Budaya is fully funded by Yayasan Permata Malaysia

(YPM).
