#SHOWBIZ: Dharma seeks TV station payment for show, as agreed in contract

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actor Dharma Harun Al-Rashid claims that part of the reason for his current dire financial situation is due to the cancellation of a contract to purchase a religious programme he had produced a few years ago by a TV station.

In a news report yesterday, the 67-year-old artiste alleged that after the show was aired in 2022, the station had signed a deal to buy the rights to it for RM360,000.

"So with that deal in mind, my family decided to move into this house, and both my children had enrolled as students at Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (Aswara).

"However, the station suddenly was no longer interested in going ahead with the deal for some reason. Without the promised money, which was a significant sum, is how we ended up in this situation now," he said.

Dharma added that what he seeks from the TV station is what is due to him as agreed in the contract.

After suffering a stroke in 2019, the actor could no longer work and support his family.

The family is also facing eviction, due to Dharma's failure to pay the rent for the past several months.

He is well-remembered for his character Cikgu Azmi in the 1980 movie 'Adik Manja', which he starred alongside Noorkumalasari and Adibah Amin who played the role of Cikgu Bedah.
