#SHOWBIZ: Westlife gives fans musical magic in the clouds

GENTING HIGHLANDS: Legendary Irish pop group Westlife mesmerised 5,132 fans at the Arena Of Stars here tonight.

The group's two-hour concert which began at 6pm saw heart-throbs Shane Filan, Kian Egan and Nicky Byrne serenade Malaysian fans with 20 popular hits including My Love, Uptown Girl, Flying Without Wings, If I Let You Go, Swear It Again, Fool Again, What Makes A Man, Hello My Love, Seasons In The Sun, I Lay My Love On You and World Of Our Own.

Westlife's concert organised by MMIC Entertainment Group was titled Westlife The Hits Tour and took Filan, Egan and Byrne around the East Asian region to Malaysia, Indonesia and China.

The concert marked the first time Westlife performed as a trio in Malaysia following Mark Feehily's decision to leave the band in March due to health issues.

In early March, Feehily posted a statement on Instagram that he would not be touring with his fellow members to prioritise his recovery.

Feehily said he had to undergo four major surgeries for sepsis and hernia between August 2020 and March.

Westlife was formed in Dublin in 1998.

Brian McFadden was a member before leaving in 2004.

The group disbanded in 2012 after 14 years and reunited in 2018.

They have sold over 55 million records.

Westlife has received numerous accolades including two Brit Awards and four MTV Awards.

The group has released 12 studio albums.

They rose to fame with their debut self-titled studio album in 1999.

It was followed by Coast To Coast (2000), World Of Our Own (2001) and Turnaround (2003).

Following the departure of McFadden, the group released the albums Allow Us To Be Frank (2004), The Love Album (2006), Face To Face (2005), Back Home (2007), Where We Are (2009) and Gravity (2010).

After reforming in 2018, the quartet released the albums Spectrum (2019) and Wild Dreams (2021).

Filan held a solo concert in Elmina Central Park, Sungai Buloh, Selangor on Jan 19, 2019.On Aug 8 and 9, 2019, Westlife performed at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam.

Westlife returned to Malaysia on Feb 23 and 24, 2022 at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
