KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra) and the Energy Commission (ST) will expand the Solar for Own Use (SelCo) programme to include solar installations for agriculture and on land and water from Jan 1, 2025
These updates aim to help corporations and industries meet their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals while supporting the national target of 70 per cent renewable energy by 2050.
The new guidelines remove the previous limit of 85 per cent peak demand for non-domestic users and introduce energy storage system requirements to maintain grid stability.
Registration will be managed by ST, with more details available on their website.
The update to SelCo follows changes made to the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme to allow the general public and industries to generate at least 30 per cent more electricity by installing solar panels.
Under the NEM, consumers can use solar panels for their own needs, and any excess energy is sent back to the grid, earning credits to reduce their electricity bills.
