Bursa Malaysia closes higher at midday break, key index above 1,630 points

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended higher at the lunch break today supported by sustained buying in selected heavyweights.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced 4.91 points, or 0.30 per cent, to 1,633.05, compared with Friday's close of 1,628.14.

The benchmark index opened 2.0 points lower at 1,626.14 and moved within a range of 1,624.92 to 1,633.53 during the session.

On the broader market, gainers edged out decliners 444 to 436, while 494 counters were unchanged, 1,038 untraded, and 67 suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.45 billion units worth RM903.23 million.

Maybank Investment Bank Bhd (MaybankIB) said the FBM KLCI briefly dipped this morning but managed to resume its upward trend, holding firm above the 1,630 level.

The firm said the broad market was favoring the bulls, with gainers outpacing laggards.

"The construction sector continued to outperform, with Gamuda Bhd and IJM Corp Bhd as the leading movers."

"Meanwhile, tech and plantation sectors slipped into the red after four and three consecutive days of gains, respectively."

"However, most risk-off sectors remained steady today," it added.Ends
