Bursa Malaysia extends winning streak

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia continued its third-day winning streak to close higher today, driven by key heavyweights.

At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended 10.71 points or 0.67 per cent higher at 1,613.70 compared with Tuesday's close of 1,602.99.

Bursa Malaysia was closed yesterday in conjunction with Christmas.

The benchmark index opened marginally higher by 0.59 of-a-point at 1,603.58, and hovered between 1,602.79 and 1615.28 throughout the day.

The broader market was also positive, with gainers outpaced losers 692 to 295, while 499 counters remained unchanged, 936 were untraded and 17 suspended.

Malacca Securities said the FBM KLCI continued its third-day winning streak, driven by key heavyweights including Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd and IHH Healthcare Bhd.

Petronas Chemicals was among the top gainers with its stock rose 17 sen or 3.6 per cent to RM4.89 with its market capitalisation valued at RM39.1 bilion.

IHH's share price closed at RM7.20, up 12 sen or 1.7 per cent, valuing the company at RM63.5 billion.

A total of 12.49 million shares changed hands.

"Most of the blue-chip stocks observed decent buying support amid the window dressing period, lifting the key index.

"In the broader market, all the sectors closed on a positive note, with industrial products and services sector gaining the most by 1.74 per cent," Malacca Securities said.
