MACC clears YTL Communications of any wrongdoing in 1BestariNet project [BTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Power International Bhd announced that its 60 per cent-owned subsidiary, YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) concerning the multi-billion ringgit 1BestariNet Internet project.

"We refer to our statements on Sept 4, 2024, and Oct 30, 2024, in relation to the investigation carried out by the MACC into the 1Bestarinet project undertaken by YTL Communications. We wish to announce that we have received confirmation from MACC that it has concluded its investigations and determined that no charges will be pursued against YTL Communication," YTL Power said in a statement today.

The 1BestariNet project, initiated by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2011, was designed to provide high-speed internet access to schools and introduce a virtual learning system. Initially planned for a 15-year duration with a budget of RM4.07 billion, the project was later shortened to seven years and six months.

YTL Communications reportedly only completed the first two phases of the project, which concluded in June 2019.

In September, the MACC announced an investigation into YTL Communications regarding the project. The probe followed "new information" received from the Government Procurement and Finance Governance Investigation Committee in August, along with a report from the Public Accounts Committee.

YTL Power, in a statement, assured its full cooperation with the MACC during the investigation.
