KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) has appointed outgoing Securities Commission Malaysia (SC)'s executive chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Awang Adek Hussin as its new chairman effective July 1, 2024.
In a statement today, BSN said Awang Adek, who also serves as chairman of the Board of Governors at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), has a vast experience having served in the financial sector, diplomatic service, and public administration.
"His profound knowledge and leadership in the financial sector will enhance BSN's mission to fulfil its mandates and pursue its strategic vision. BSN looks forward to his leadership in driving the bank towards excellence and innovation," it said.
Awang Adek notable tenure is at Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) where he held several leadership roles for 17 years, rising to the role of assistant governor in 1996.
He has served as the deputy minister of Rural Development and deputy minister of Finance and was appointed as Malaysia's ambassador to the United States of America (USA) for two years. He was subsequently appointed as chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).
Awang Adek was the first director general of the Labuan Financial Services Authority, chairman of PNB Research Institute, Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Bhd, and chairman of Perbadanan Nasional Bhd.
